Tips and Templates

Statement of interest

To help structure your statement of interest, here are 5 questions:

  1. Tell us about your previous research experience, with a detailed description of your specific role and tasks for at least one project, how you accomplished your goals and challenges that arised, as well as quantitative and computational tools you used.
  2. Tell us about you research interests and goals for the future, including specific topics or potential projects if you have any in mind (optional), and how our work aligns with your goals.
  3. Tell us about one research paper you enjoyed reading in the last 3 months, why, and how you can imagine improving or extending upon that work. This can but does not need to be a paper from Richard or the group.
  4. Tell us about an interest, hobby, or project you have worked on that’s not directly required for your academic curriculum, what you gained from it, and one secret to doing it better the next time. This can include personal research projects, sports, art, etc.
  5. Anything else you may want us to know, such as contextual information or special circumstances, etc.

Please limit your response to 1 page maximum. Font, spacing, and margin size are of your choice, just make sure it is readable.
